REGIONAL & NATIONAL LEADERS

Augsburg is a player on the national stage, competing against the best teams and individuals at the NCAA Division III level. Our teams regularly seek out top non-conference competition on a regional and national level, and recently many of our teams have been nationally ranked.

*As the most successful collegiate wrestling program at any level, the Auggies have won 11 NCAA Division III national championships in the last 22 seasons (1991, 1993, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2007, 2010), a record in Division III competition. Augsburg is one of only three NCAA schools to have won 10 or more college wrestling national titles (Oklahoma State has won 34 Division I team titles, while Iowa has won 23 Division I team titles). Augsburg has also finished second nine times since 1984, in the top four nationally the last 24 seasons in a row and in the top 20 nationally (NCAA from 1983 to present, NAIA pre-1983) every year since 1971.

*The men’s basketball team has appeared in the national tournament three times during the past 25 years, including the 1998-99 team led by future NBA first-round draft pick Devean George.

*The baseball team has won 10 MIAC regular season titles, and made it's most recent trip to the NCAA Tournament in 1987.

*In the last five seasons alone, the men's soccer, women's soccer and wrestling teams have all appeared in their respective national rankings. In addition, the men’s track and field, women’s track and field, men's hockey and men's basketball teams have been regionally ranked. 

*Augsburg’s football team advanced to the NCAA Playoffs in 1997, and can boast wins over three ranked opponents, including consecutive wins over nationally ranked Wartburg in 2007 and 2008. In the last decade, Augsburg has had 18 All-Region selections and five All-American honorees, including wide receiver Royce Winford who was also named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 2008.

*The men’s soccer team has been regionally ranked three different seasons under current head coach Greg Holker. Additionally, Chad Gilmer '13 and Peter Lloyd '11 have recently earned all-region honors, while the Augsburg team has appeared in the national tournament twice during the last five seasons, including a trip to the Sweet 16 in 2008.

*The women’s soccer team ended the 2012 season ranked 5th regionally, while goalkeeper Maggie DeGroot '09 was Augsburg's most recent all-region honoree in 2008.

*The men’s track and field team has produced two All-Americans since 2003, and has had eight team members qualify for the NCAA Championship meet during the same time frame.

*The women’s track and field team has featured a total of 33 All-America citations, including eight NCAA individual national champions, including Carolyn Ross '89 who won five NCAA individual titles during her career.
*In the past 10 seasons, 54 student-athletes have earned All-America honors.
